Peri-implantitis: Diagnosis and Treamtent
Presented by: Dr. Siavash Hassanpour, DDS
Dr. Hassanpour received his H.B.Sc in molecular biology from the University of Toronto in 2008 and subsequently completed a M.Sc degree in bone biology from the University of Toronto in 2014. In 2014, he received his DDS degree from the University of Toronto. He is currently in his final year of residency in the Graduate Periodontology program at the University of Toronto. He is also currently working as a general dentist in the Greater Toronto Area and is a clinical Periodontology instructor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hassanpour continues to be an active clinical scientist and is currently completing his second Master’s of Science degree, this time focusing on the effects of inflammation in maintaining oral health. He has published multiple peer reviewed scientific articles, book chapters and has presented his research at multiple dental conferences.
Dental implants are quickly becoming the preferred means of replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are a very successful and reproducible treatment modality. That said, peri-implant diseases are afflicting an increasing proportion of dental implants which ultimately jeopardize the clinical longevity of dental implants. Peri-implant biological complications, including perio-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis present a unique challenge to the dental team due to a lack of clear diagnostic criteria and treatment algorithm.
This talk, geared towards the hygiene tema, presents a comprehensive review of implant therapy, including:
Surgical and restorative components of dental implantology
Maintenance of dental implants
Diagnosis of biological peri-implant complications
Treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
